What things do you see on this banner? Compare the symbols on the banners. How does the banner on the left differ from the one on the right? What does this difference show? (or which one would you have liked to work on?) Can you fill in the blanks from these songs sung in church? 1) "And He will raise you up on ______'s wings" 2) Like rivers in the _______ Your grace flows through our lives 3) Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be _______ . (Answers are found on the "Photos" page.)
The Word: "TRUST"When we trust people, it is because we have faith that we can count on them, based on past experience. That’s why we trust God, knowing form all the stories of the past that we can count on God. Do you Know? The American Sign Language sign for “trust” is very much like the sign for “faith.” To sign “trust,” hold your hands out, palms facing your body, then shape your hands like you are holding onto a rope. To sign “faith,” point to your forehead with your first finger (the sign for “think”), then hold your hands out, palms facing your body, and shape your hands like you are holding onto a rope. (The sign for “faith” combines the signs “think” and “trust”.) Craft: Cordel (A Little Book of Poems)A traditional folk art in Brazil is the cordel. This is a book made of inexpensive paper that has a wood cut design on the cover. The books are sold in the marketplace, where the author is often on hand to recite the poems and try to sell the books. Many of them are about Bible stories. Materials
Cut a simple shape like a cross from the sponge. Pour a little tempera paint out on a paper plate and dip the sponge into the paint. Press the sponge down firmly on one piece of card stock to make the front cover. When the paint is dry, staple the lightweight sheets of paper between the 2 pieces of card stock to make a book. Tie a loop in one end of the cord. Staple the other end to the top left corner of the front book cover. In your cordel, write a poem that tells a Bible story, copy a psalm, or make up your own story. |
