Bicycles for Malawi Our Youth Group generously decided to provide funding for two such bicycles! The Church gut involved in this mission project.
At the request of our partners in the Synod of Livingstonia, the Presbytery of Northern NY is helping to provide bicycles (at $65 each) for Presbyterian ministers in Malawi. These are necessary tiools as each minister needs a bicycle to travel to the Preaching Points and to serve their parish. Last November there was a class of 14 new ministers who each need transportation.
Contributions to buy bicycles should be sent to the Presbytery of Northern NY, 8739 US HWY 11, Potsdam, NY 13676, and marked as “Malawi Bicycles.” The funding for each bicycle is about $65.00. |
2008 Youth Group Report
Youth Group remains active with new members joining us this year. David Clancy returned for his second year of assisting us as well as Pastor Rich in an advisory role.
We participated again in Souper Bowl and raised $179.63 plus five food items all of which went to Helping Hands of Potsdam, NY. We have received a challenge from the Ogdensburg Youth Group who raised $231.50 last year. We are hoping our congregation and friends can help us go beyond that figure in 2009. Go SOUPER BOWL!!
Other activities through the year included croquet on the green at Ives Park (we even watched a country western band), bowling at the Market Lanes, helping out at community dinners, VBS, and Christmas Jubilee, helping out at the children’s Halloween party, and winter sledding after our Christmas Party at the Will farm. One of the highlights was our Halloween party at the Will Farm where we met with the Ogdensburg Youth Group to carve pumpkins and go on a noisy hayride through the woods (too bad the tractor kept sputtering out!). Our group welcomes new members from 7th grade and above.
Parents are urged to encourage involvement of their youth in this special part of First Church.
For those who wish to join this great group, the time has been changed from 3:00PM to 1:00PM and we meet for two hours. |

2009 Youth Group Report
Potsdam First Youth Group started its 2009 year with a resounding response from the church community as over $500 was given to Souper Bowl Sunday. Spurred on by a challenge from First Church Ogdensburg, we were delighted by the giving of our church. Some of the activities through the year included: bowling, games, pizza and planning, distribution of Easter baskets to shut-ins, assisting at VBS and spaghetti dinners, helping out Jubilees Easter and Christmas, going to the Corn Maze at Gabriels, pumpkin carving and wagon rides with Ogdensburg Youth (the tractor did NOT fail this year!) at the Will farm, helping out at Parents’ afternoon out with O’burg youth and much more. This group, while small in number, is high in number and commitment. One special activity was to design a square for the Bicentennial Quilt. We look forward to a special year this year.
